Although COVID-19 is still spreading all over the world, the global sports industry has already developed its own "prevention and control measures" after experiencing the adverse current in 2020. With the vigorous development of digitalization, new sports consumption patterns have emerged quietly and developed rapidly; The diversified sports forms such as camping and cycling have also opened up a new development direction for the sports industry.

SFIA: Sales of sporting goods increased by 16% in 2021

According to the annual manufacturer classified sales report of the sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), the total market revenue of sports equipment, training equipment, sports shoes, sportswear and licensed goods in 2021 increased by 15.8% compared with 2020 and 16.4% compared with the figure before the epidemic in 2019. In these two years, the growth of most tracked categories exceeded 10%. According to the above data, the current value of the sporting goods industry is more than 111 billion US dollars.

The report tracks the wholesale revenue of sports and fitness products in more than 30 categories in the United States and compares it with that in previous years.

Since 2019, the total sales of sports equipment has increased by 16.8%. The five fastest growing sports equipment categories in the past two years are golf (57.1%), camping (33.6%), ice and snow sports (27.2%), tennis (27%) and basketball (26.6%).

The total sales of training equipment, including consumer and institutional categories, increased by 42.2% compared with that before the epidemic. Since 2019, the sales of the four major consumer equipment categories - home gym, fitness bike, free weight trainer and fitness chair have increased by more than 100%. The sales of fitness products fluctuated the most, and the consumption of fitness products increased significantly in the early stage of the epidemic.
Camping has become a mainstream and widely used leisure tourism choice. Not only 40% of leisure travelers choose camping, but also 80% of leisure travelers choose camping or exquisite camping in at least part of their trips, which shows the importance of camping to tourism and hotel industry.

Exquisite camping and RV tours are also becoming more and more popular. In 2021, nearly half of new campers will have at least one exquisite camping trip and nearly 15 million families will have at least one RV tour. In the past, most RV tourists rented and borrowed RV for vacation, but now 77% of RV tourists own RV. Similarly, non RV owners are also very interested in purchasing RV, with 32% saying they want to buy RV in 2022.
